Léo is looking for the wolf that roams the mountains plains of Lozère when he meets a shepherdess, Marie. A few months later, they have a child. Assailed by the baby blues, and unable to trust Léo, who comes and goes without warning, she abandons both him and the baby. Léo finds himself with a baby to look after. It's complicated but, ultimately, he likes it. Meanwhile, he doesn't have a lot of work and becomes increasingly poor. Social degeneration forces him back to Lozère's high plains and to tracking the wolf.
