Something Strange on Moon

Apollo 8 is famous for being the first time humans travelled to the moon - but the astronauts might not have been alone in space, if this image is to be believed.

Found at the end of a reel of film taken during the mission in December 1968, it appears to show a large triangular object sitting on, or above, the lunar surface.

The shape is three-dimensional, and seems to be creating its own shadow, prompting speculation that it could be a UFO.

The black and white image, shot on a 70mm camera, was the only part of the surviving sequence of film from the mission that includes the object.

It came to light after an unnamed source sent it Tyler Glockner, who runs the SecureTeam YouTube channel, which reports on UFO sightings.

Mr Glockner said: 'This is basically the last in this film magazine taken during the Apollo 8 moon mission.

'As you can see in the photo, there is something massive that appears either over or on the moon.

'I went back to the Apollo Image Atlas and went through all of the previous frames before this and there was nothing out of the ordinary.

'In frame 2908 all of a sudden we see this massive triangular-shaped object sitting atop the moon.'

The fact that the image was not shown in any of the other film stills could mean that it only appeared briefly and then disappeared, he added.

'It definitely looks like a three-dimensional object, it has even got some shadowing to it.

'That makes me think that there is a good possibility that something, albeit briefly, appeared on the moon.'

Other images claiming to show evidence of extraterrestrial life have been dismissed by sceptics, who claimed they were edited by hoaxers.

But Mr Glockner believes this is an unlikely explanation for this particular image.

He said: 'These are taken with film. This is not some image artefact that you would get with digital images where you have glitches and all sorts of static and pixillation issues.

'You didn't really have all that with film. Short of developing it incorrectly or letting light hit the film during development you would not get anomalies like this.'
