Athens, Georgia - CBS 46 - Now police called in to break up a huge brawl an apartment complex in Athens. They say as many as 200 people we're involved in that fight. No one was arrested but tenants tell Melinda Roeder this kind of fighting happens all the time. She's live from police headquarters in Athens with reaction to the violence from police and neighbors. Melinda how to 200 people end up brawls all the time? Well it started out like most fights do with a couple of people then apparently they all seem to get involved in it. Now police say that they do know this particular subsidized apartment complex is a problem spot for fighting. But they say they need more help from residents if they are going to get a handle on it. In the meantime we found plenty of videos fighting there both on Instagram and YouTube. Take a look at this video from a fight Sunday evening at the Athens Gardens Apartment complex. You can see a large crowd gathered and a parking lot. Witnesses tell us it all started with two women allegedly fighting over a man, but soon others got involved and it turned into a big brawl. A whole lot of people about 200 people were standing out, we're fighting out here. It was so many people out here, I couldn't see who was fighting. It was just so many people you couldn't see who it was. It was awful. The crowd was so bad police officers reported having trouble just getting into the complex. It was difficult for the officers to pull in it was actually citizens cars blocking the entrance. When officers got in the crowd scattered, leaving behind hair weaves and wigs pulled out during the fight. No one was arrested and it didn't appear that anyone was armed. But residents say violent fights are nothing new here We found several videos online from fight at the apartments like this one from 3 weeks ago. Its just a fighting ground if you want to fight it's like this is the place to come. I don't know why because a lot of people who fight out here don't even live out here. Police say they have tried tracking down on the violence but can't seem to get enough cooperation from tenants. We've even attempted to set up community meetings on a regular basis and it's been poor attendance from the residence there. The residents say the fighting is getting worse lately. You never know what they have a gun a knife I'm just trying to live. And they're tired of living in fear. Of course all the time, I've had to lay down on my floor because of the gunshots that you hear. It's very scary. Now again police say no arrests but they tell us they did try talking to several witnesses after Sunday evening fight. No one wanted to answer any of their questions. Now according to that police report a phone call to the management company went unanswered we didn't get a response either. Live in Athens Melinda Roeder CBS 46.
