Tennessee Gov. Vetoes Bill to Make Bible the Official State Book
  • 8 years ago
Republican Gov. Bill Haslam has vetoed a bill to make the Holy Bible the official state book of Tennessee.
The bill had narrowly passed both chambers of the Tennessee General Assembly after sponsors said the legislation was aimed at honoring historical contributions of the Bible as opposed to a government endorsement of religion.
But the state’s attorney general warned that the bill would violate both the U.S. and Tennessee constitutions
