Mohamed Abrini arrested by belgian police

The Belgian federal prosecutor's office on Friday (April 8) confirmed it had made several arrests related to the deadly attacks in Brussels on March 22 but gave no further details.

Earlier on Friday, public broadcaster VRT said two men were arrested, with one of them being Mohamed Abrini, wanted over November's Islamic State attacks in Paris.

An amateur video showed a man being arrested in the Brussels borough of Anderlecht, next to the western district of Molenbeek which has been at the heart of Belgium's troubles with Islamist militants.

Abrini was reported by VRT to have been arrested in Anderlecht.

VRT added that Abrini was probably involved as well in last month's Brussels bombings, that killed 32 people at the airport and on a metro line.

Abrini, a 31-year-old Belgian, was "more than likely" the "man in the hat" seen on security camera footage at Brussels airport on March 22 with two suicide bombers, VRT and RTBF said on their websites, citing unidentified sources.
