Study: Unhealthy Carbs Can Increase Cancer Risk

New research led by New York University has found that eating unhealthy carbs such as those found in sugary drinks and fast foods can increase the risk of prostate cancer while consuming good carbs can lower the risk of breast cancer.

Cancer warnings have been issued relating to processed meats, and now researchers are sounding the alarm about certain types of carbohydrates.
Lead researcher Nour Makarem with New York University explains, “It appears that healthy carbohydrate sources, such as legumes, tend to protect us from cancer, but non-healthy ones, such as fast foods and sugary beverages, seem to increase the risk...”
The study assessed the dietary habits of more than 3,100 participants; 565 of them received cancer diagnoses during the 20-plus years of tracking.
