Dozens dead in coordinated terror attacks on Brussels airport and metro

BRUSSELS — A pair of explosions ripped through the Zaventem airport shortly before 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, while a third blast rocked a Brussels metro station shortly after, killing two dozen people and prompting authorities to put the city on a maximum terror alert.
Belgian media reported that at least one of the explosions took place near the American Airlines check-in counter inside the airport's departure hall, and the other at a Starbucks in the departure hall. Early media reports put the death toll at 11 at the airport.
About 75 minutes after the airport attack, around 9:15 a.m., another explosion ripped through the Maelbeek metro station, at a time of day when trains were packed with morning rush hour commuters. Early media reports put the death toll at 15 in the metro attack. The Maelbeek metro station is close to key European Union buildings.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel warned the public against any unnecessary movement.
