Man Allowed To Wear Fox Hat In ID Photo After Appeal

A court has ruled that a Portland man named Bishop can be allowed to wear a fox hat in his DMV ID photo on the grounds that it is an expression of his religious beliefs.

People aren’t typically allowed to wear hats in their DMV photos, but one man has won the right after a legal fight that lasted for nine months. 

KATU reports that the incident began when a Portland man named Bishop went to renew his driver’s license last year. 

DMV staff allowed him to wear a fox hat in his photo because he said it represented the spirit animal of his Seven Drums religion which is practiced by the Nez Perce Indian tribe.
