Visiting a Guayaquil city hospital Tuesday to see an ultrasound of their unborn child, Binary subverting Ecuadorian couple Diane Rodriguez and Fernando Machado are set to become South America’s first transgender couple. The couple’s pregnancy has sparked discussions of transgender rights across South America, where they say the gender binary is still an unquestioned structure of society.
