United confirms 10-abreast seating for Boeing 777s on US domestic flights
  • 8 years ago
CHICAGO — United Airlines this week confirmed it will retrofit some of its Boeing-777 airliners to include 10-abreast seating in economy, reported USA Today.

The airline is planning to modify the coach cabins on some of its domestic Boeing 777s from the nine-seat 2-5-2 layout to 10-abreast seating in a 3-4-3 configuration. The change will add 20 extra seats.

The new configuration will be installed on 19 of its 74 Boeing 777s that are used for domestic flights, mostly to and from Hawaii. Other 777s on international routes will continue to seat 9-across in economy cabin.

Ten-abreast seating is becoming a popular airline trend. According to USA Today, Boeing say half of the 777s delivered last year were made with that layout.
