Extreme Heat Waves Could Be Annual Occurrence For Half The Planet By 2075

A new study funded by the U.S. Department of Energy has found that extreme heat waves which are usually only experienced every 20 years could become annual occurrences across more than half the Earth by 2075 if current greenhouse gas emission levels continue.

Rare heat waves could become much more frequent if current trends remain the same.
A new study by researchers from the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has found that extreme heat waves that are typically experienced once every two decades could become annual occurrences by 2075. The percentage of the planet’s land surfaces affected could be as high as 60.
