Bimini Twist

One of the more popular knots in big-game fishing has also become popular among many great fly-fishermen. The Bimini takes a bit of practice, but once you get the feel for it, you’ll find it to be useful for many applications. The first place in your setup that you might want to use a Bimini twist would be at the end of the backing that will eventually be attached to your fly line. When you tie a Bimini, you end up with a loop, the size of which will be determined by how much of a tag end you work with as well as how many wraps you decide to use (I suggest a minimum of 20). If you decide to use a Bimini at the end of your backing, make sure the loop will be large enough to go around the reel. Once you have the Bimini tied, simply pass its loop through the loop in the end of the fly line. Next, bring the reel through the Bimini loop and pull snug, and you’ll have a very strong loop-to-loop connection.
