WANGARATTA, AUSTRALIA — Residents of a small town in Australia are struggling to cope after it was inundated by piles and piles of a tumbleweed dubbed 'hairy panic.'

The people of Wangaratta, northeast Victoria, are having to spend hours each day cleaning up after their houses, garages, and gardens become covered in head-high piles of the weed.

The term 'hairy panic' comes from the plant's latin name Panicum effusum. It is found in every Australian state, but extremely dry conditions this summer have made it unbearable.

Wangaratta residents are also blaming a local farmer for not tending to his land. One reportedly complained to told local media that it was annoying to spend time clearing up the mess.

No help is available from the authorities as the plant is not considered a fire hazard.
