'Eliot Spitzer choked me in NY hotel' Russian woman tells police

NEW YORK — Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is currently being investigated by the NYPD for allegedly assaulting a woman at a hotel on Saturday night.
Police sources said a Russian woman claimed Spitzer shoved her and had his hands around her neck inside a room at the Plaza Hotel in Midtown.
An argument apparently broke out between Spitzer and the woman after she told him that she was leaving to go back to Russia. That's when he allegedly pushed and choked her.
The woman was hospitalized on Saturday night for an alleged suicide attempt. CBS 2 reported the woman cut her wrists at the hotel and was then taken to Roosevelt Hospital. That's when she told doctors that Spitzer allegedly assaulted her.
The woman has stopped cooperating with authorities and is no longer talking to the police.
The woman said she did not want to press any charges and was released from custody.
Spitzer has not been charged and has not yet been questioned by police.
Lisa Linden, a spokeswoman for the former governor, said in a statement that "there is not truth to the allegation."
Spitzer resigned as governor in March 2008 after being involved in a prostitution scandal.
