Woman finds huntsman spider in Woolworths pre-packaged salad

SYDNEY — Among a massive prepackaged salad recall, a woman found a large huntsman spider in her Woolworths product.

The grocery company just announced a recall on its pre-packaged lettuce and salad products in conjunction with a salmonella outbreak that hospitalized two people.

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services said it had identified a number of cases of the infection linked to lettuce grown and packaged by Victorian company Tripod Farmers, which is sold at Woolworths among other grocers.

Following the announcement, many customers took to social media posting questions, concerns and complaints about the recall. Customers have been, for a while, posting horror stories about different products purchased at Woolworths from moldy bread to rotted produce.

But, when Zoe Perry posted a short video of a huntsman spider she found in her salad, it sparked renewed attention to the grocery company. The video shows a giant spider still alive and moving around inside a sealed bag of Italian style salad.

Perry's video garnered a mix of comments. Some people were surprised that the company failed to notice the arachnid and sold the salad. Others were surprised that people were surprised a spider was found in a salad. One person commented to Perry that they would "burn the bag."

Woolworths responded asking Perry to message them privately to resolve the issue.
