In this video we will review the Seymour Duncan SA3SC Woody SC Acoustic Guitar Pickup. Here is another link in case you are interested to lear what I eventually got for my classical guitar.
In this Seymour Duncan SA3SC Woody SC Acoustic Guitar Pickup Review I show you how I use this useful guitar accessory on my Takamine acoustic guitar. As you can see from the comments below, people feel different about the Woody Acoustic Guitar Pickup. And they clearly have mixed emotions when it comes to the video I produced. Well, I admit its a bonehead kind of mistake that I made. The Woody SA3SC obviously only works on guitars with steel strings. Initially, I was looking for an acoustic guitar pickup that I could use on my nylon string guitar, the Yamaha C40. As you can see in the video, it was pretty embarrassing to find out that the Woody Seymour Duncan cant work on classical guitars. But anyway, I thought I shared my faux pas with the Youtube community so others can learn from my mistakes.
What I like about the Woody by Seymour Duncan is the fact that it is so easy to install. You just need to be careful. You definitely want to make sure that the dimensions of the sound hole of your guitar is compatible with what the Woody was designed for. My second mistake was that the Woody didnt even fit on my classical guitar. Not that this would matter, because it wouldnt have worked anyway. But definitely make sure that you measure the soundhole before you buy the SA3SC Woody Acoustic Guitar Pickup.
Another thing that I really appreciate about the Seymour Duncan SC Woody is the long cable. It gives you enough room to walk around on stage. Also, this is another important factor that you should know since many people actually asked me this: The chord of the Woody guitar pickup is not in your way. Meaning, you dont have to worry that it gets in your way as you strum your strings. At least I cant say that I ever had a problem with that.
People have different opinions when it comes to the quality of the Woody SC. I personally think its a great guitar pickup considering the low price and the fact that it virtually only takes 3 seconds to get it installed. Other guitarists disagree with me on that. They actually think the Woody Seymour Duncan sounds horrible. I guess it is a matter of managing your expectations. Again, as far as I am concerned, the Woody is perfect for my purposes. Of course, there are much more expensive acoustic guitar pickups out there on the market. But I am not performing professionally, so there is really no need for me to look elsewhere.
One more point regarding the installation of the Seymour Duncan SA3SC Woody Pickup: Essentially, all you need to do is wedge it between the top and the bottom of your sound hole. Thats really it. Then, all you need to do is plug the jack into your amplifier and you are good to go. The Woody SC produces a warm and clear sound. Very distinct. I personally like the way it sounds and I like its accuracy. Bu then again, this is just me and as I had mentioned before, opinion vary strongly on this topic.
I encourage you to try the SD Woody SC for yourself. It is not a huge investment and if you dont like it, you can always sell it to somebody else. But if you come in with the right expectations, chances are you will like what you get for you money. I personally can only highly recommend the Woody SC.
