Caught on camera: Live cattle dumped like trash after Utah trailer crash

WEBER COUNTY, UTAH — A semi-trailer rig hauling cattle on a Utah highway crashed earlier this week on Jan. 25. killing at least 70 of the 80 cows onboard. And while not all the animals died in the accident, the live ones didn't escape unmarred.

Animal activists are in an uproar over a video that was posted from the accident showing a live cow being tossed into the back of a garbage truck. The cow could be seen inside a front end loader still moving around.

The woman who posted the video on her Facebook under the name Savannah Skye Haskay could be heard yelling, "no, no!" as the cow falls into the garbage truck.

Following the accident, crews had shut down the road for over 8 hours. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the cows had been trampling each other and some were suffocated. Deceased cows were loaded into a dump truck by Utah Department of Transportation.

Gleason said the trucking company and cattle owner gave them orders on how to proceed.

"There was a large animal veterinarian and some cattle wranglers that were making decisions as far as the cattle were concerned," John Gleason with UDOT told Fox 13.

Since posting, the video has been seen over 50,000 times. Comments have included those of horror and outrage as well as those making dinner jokes.
