Rock Island Line - Climax Jazz Band 1996

One of the few Skiffle numbers our band still has in the repertoire.
Chris Daniels our bassist and also a man with a great voice grew up in Great Britain and was first introduced to Jazz by the likes of Chris Barber, Ken Colyer and Acker Bilk. Chris Barber had a succesful skiffle group in which he would play bass and his banjoist Lonnie Donegan would do the vocals. Lonnie eventually moved to the States and had a succesful career in that field. One of the most popular tunes in that time in the fifties was “Rock Island Line”. Our Chris Daniels kept this tune in the repertoire and is always very much appreciated at jazz festivals. Chris and Jack Vincken on banjo, together with Jamie Aug have really perfected this tune. It is a pleasure to see it once again
