A video and photos posted online show the shockingly bad and even toxic conditions that exist in at least some Detroit schools; problems include mold, warped floors, and broken toilets.
School should be a safe place for kids to learn, but for many in Detroit, the environment is dangerous and even toxic.
The American Federation of Teachers recently posted a video online that shows school counselor Lakia Wilson pointing out the numerous deficiencies at her home base for the past 19 years, Spain Elementary-Middle School.
She talks about the school gym which the students had been using until about two months ago when it was closed.
A look inside reveals a ceiling stained with water damage as well as wood floors with significant warping and signs of mold.
