Bei Bei Makes A Public Debut While Fast Asleep

Moments before Bei Bei was primed to meet the public for the first time, he fell fast asleep in the exhibit enclosure.

It was time for a young giant panda at the National Zoo to meet the public. For the 5-month-old cub himself, it was time to take a nap.
Bei Bei's public debut on Saturday was a little sleepier than anticipated.
A video posted to Facebook by the zoo shows a staffer dutifully scoop up the baby giant panda and then haul him over to where he'd be seen.
As he is placed in the exhibit enclosure, however, he crumples over into a ball, fast asleep.
And while Bei Bei appears to be dozing, the building is opened for public viewing to begin.
