Tu, Solo Tu~Lola Flores Y Luis Aguilar~Spanish and English Lyrics

Ay Pena, Penita, Pena stars Lola Flores as Carmen, Luis Aguilar as Luis and Antonio Badu as Carlos. This short clip is a scene from that movie in which Luis sings Tu Solo Tu (You, Only You) to Carmen and she then joins in a duet with Luis. The band is Mariachi Mexico and the song is performed in the Mexican Ranchera style. This movie was meant to be a star vehicle for Flores and has 12 songs by Flores with Luis joining in on a duet on four of those.
Ay Pena, Penita, Pena was the first of nine such folk musicals produced in Spain by Suevia Folms of Madrid and were a collaboration between Suevia and the better funded Diana Films of Mexico City. The movie was filmed in Mexico City and Madrid. Suevia Films was run by Cesareo Gonzales who signed exclusive contracts with Spanish folk singers who had already achieved some measure of fame in Spain and Latin America so that his films would have built in audiences and guaranteed profitability. Latin American audiences closely identified with Andalusian culture. Flores' character was that of an Andalusian gypsy (Flores claimed to be part gypsy) and her accent, printed fabrics and flower in her hair were all calculated to emphasize her Andalusian character. To appeal to Mexican audiences, Mexican actors Antonio Badu and Luis Aguilar were recruited to go to Madrid to begin the project. Considering that Spain and the Spanish film industry were almost totally devastated by the Spanish Civil War, the fact that this film was even made was quite a remarkable achievement. The film was directed by Miguel Morayta who was one of many Spanish talents that left for Mexico after the war.
The storyline of the film is that of Carmen Heredia (Flores), a gypsy from Andalusia who sells lottery tickets. She meets Luis (Aguilar) and Carlos (Badu), two Mexican brothers stranded in Spain and the three pool their resources to buy a lottery ticket. They have a winning number (of course) and the two brothers return to Mexico with Carmen who is looking for her bull fighter boyfriend Antonio. Antonio no longer desires Carmen who has to take to singing in a Cafe where she begins to draw large crowds. Antonio sees her success and has second thoughts but Carmen turns the tables on the bull fighter. In the cafe, she uses her music to humiliate Antonio to the laughter and jeers of the crowd. The two brothers are now in conflict as both have fallen in love with Carmen but Carlos comes to accept that Carmen loves Luis who lives happily ever after with Carmen.
