LONGMONT, COLORADO — Police in Longmont, Colorado are searching for a man suspected of raping and kidnapping a 16-year-old and believed to be driving her to Missouri.

The girl's mother called police to report a sex assault, a pattern of abuse that according to her has been ongoing since October, the Boulder Daily Camera reported.

The rape suspect, Thomas Ludwig Fechtler, 51, also known as Thomas Kitchen, is believed to be traveling with the girl in a light green 2007 Toyota Rav4 with a Missouri license plate that expired in November of 2015 and rear back damage.

"We don't believe she's being held against her will," Longmont police Commander Jeff Satur told the Boulder Daily Camera. "But she's been the victim of sexual abuse and we are concerned for her welfare."

Police believe they may be headed to one of three Missouri cities: St. Joseph, Darlington or Kingston.

According to KCTV News, Fechtler is wanted on a felony arrest warrant for sexual assault on a child from a position of trust, second-degree kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
