The Golden Opulence Sundae costs a whopping $1,000 (£620), and is usually ordered two days in advance, allowing time for the finest ingredients to be flown in from around the world. More than 400 diners have enjoyed the decadent dessert, which includes 23-carat edible gold leaf, at Serendipity 3 in the Upper East Side. The Golden Opulence Sundae is described as a double vanilla infused ice-cream paired with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate from Venezuela that is covered in the gold leaf. Around 50 diners a year come to sample the exotic and elaborate treat for special occasions ranging from wedding anniversaries, to a daughter's sweet sixteen, to a celebration for graduating law school. The exclusive New York eaterie has held a Guinness World Record for it's amazing concoction for the past eight years. The Golden Opulence Sundae features a $300 Baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet like those used in the Vatican (which is yours to keep), a 23 carat gold edible leaf wrapped around the ice cream, a priceless Tahitian Vanilla Ice cream infused with Madagascar Vanilla to create an intense flavour. The icecream also comes with candied fruit from Paris soaked for many months and costing $100 per pound, with the world's most expensive chocolate Amedei Porcelana drizzled over the top with chunks of the world's rarest Chuao chocolate from Venezuela, and almonds coated in candy coated in gold. small bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, a dessert caviar which contains no salt, and is infused with passionfruit, orange and Armagnac.
