Massive eruptions emanating from a gigantic black hole have been observed by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. 
The black hole in question is one of the nearest to Earth currently in the throes of such violent activity.
According to the space agency, the supermassive space phenomenon is hanging out around two companion galaxies “in the Messier 51 galaxy system, located about 26 million light years from Earth.”
