Rat drags dead pal through New York subway, probably to make a meal out of it

NEW YORK — While 2015's pizza rat gave netizens Ratatouille flashbacks at seeing one small rodent tenaciously dragging away a pizza slice step by step down the New York subway, this new video of another subway rat has gone viral for more shocking reasons.
YouTube user JB Jose was at the Jay Street-Metrotech station just before midnight on Saturday with his girlfriend. He told the Gothamist in an email that they saw a rat appear on the platform and head towards a dead rat that was on the steps. He began filming the rodent, dubbed "cannibal rat" by netizens, as it proceeded to drag the corpse all the way down the steps and across the subway platform before disappearing into the darkness.
While some have speculated that the rodent may have been rescuing its fallen friend, the reality may be much more grim. Though the video does not show cannibal rat chowing down on his dead comrade, rats have been known to be cannibalistic, according to the Huffington Post, which cited a study by W. Lane-Petter in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
