DENTON, TEXAS — A 20-year-old college student was killed during a suspected road rage shooting in Denton, Texas following a New Year's Eve party.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Sara Mutschlechner[d], was a junior at North Texas University, was driving in Denton, Texas at around 2 a.m on Friday following a New Year's Eve party.

According to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Mutschlechner was a member of the Zeta sorority. Fellow sorority member Taylor Phillips told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Mutschlechner was driving friends home when the shooting occurred.

According to ABC News, the 20-year-old was driving with three passengers, when she stopped the car at a red light. A SUV containing five to six black men pulled up along side them. Police told the Dallas Morning News that words were exchanged between passengers in both vehicles, and then, one of the men from the SUV opened fire, shooting Mutschlechner in the head.

The SUV then drove away, NBC News reported. Police say Mutschlechner then lost control of the car, hit another vehicle and then struck an electrical pole. She died later at hospital.
