DPRK may be readying for fourth nuclear weapons test

PYONGYANG, NORTH KOREA — A report by the South Korean military suggests that North Korea may be preparing for its fourth nuclear test.

According to Yonhap News agency, the report from the South Korean Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) Defense Command suggests that North Korea has already laid the groundwork for thermonuclear weapons and may already be producing tritium — an important component in nuclear weapons.

As well as this, the South Korean military also suspects Pyongyang may be building a light water reactor to produce tritium, Yonhap News Agency reported.

However, the report notes that North Korea does not appear to be in the final stages of completing hydrogen bombs, Yonhap News Agency reported. The DPRK has conducted three nuclear tests previously, in 2006, 2009 and 2013. Each have sparked international criticism and outrage.
