Officials told residents of West Alton, Missouri, to head for higher ground on Tuesday, December 29, after rising floodwaters of the Mississippi River breached a levee. West Alton is sandwiched between the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.The Mississippi was expected to crest in the area on Thursday just three feet below the record set in 1982, local media reported.
