French meteorologist Jean Ricard has devised a new rainbow classification system that identifies 12 distinct types of rainbows.

Just because it's a rainbow doesn't mean it's got all the colors of, well, a rainbow. 
Some rainbows are missing blue or violet; some are simply red. And, now, Jean Ricard, with France's National Centre for Meteorological Research, has devised a rainbow classification system that identifies 12 types in total.
