Mexico: Migrant Families March in Nation’s Capital

On International Migrants Day, families of Mexican migrants marched in Mexico City to demand justice, greater job stability and higher pay for migrants. While economic volatility and insecurity in Mexico continues to provoke migration, the “American dream” has become a nightmare fo many. The number of Mexicans returning to Mexico now exceeds the number of those migrating. Migrant rights defenders also denounced the heightened militarization, deportation and criminalization of Central American migrants caused by Mexico’s tightening of its southern border in collaboration with the United States.
