Gaza: In Freezing Temperatures Power Cuts Are Expected

As temperatures drop to freezing in the Gaza Strip, residents express their disappointment over probable long hours of power cuts. Officials at the Power Authority in Gaza warned that the enclave’s sole power plant could fail to meet even a minimum of eight hours a day of power due to high consumption rates in the cold winter season. Gaza depends on fuel that comes into the territory from both Egypt and Israel. With a 50% deficit in power supplies, fuel shortages have endangered all aspects of daily life, including health, transportation, sanitation and water pumps.
