Fake mass shooting to be held by pro-gun activists at U of Texas Austin on Saturday

AUSTIN, TEXAS — This weekend, a mock campus massacre is scheduled to be performed by pro-gun groups near the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. The groups have no affiliation with the university.
Earlier this year the Texas state government passed a law which permits concealed gun carry permit holders to bring their weapons anywhere on public college campuses in the state. However, the law, which will take effect in August 2016, also allows colleges to designate "gun-free zones" on the campus.
Fearing that those identified gun-free zones will invite attack by terrorists or campus shooters, two pro-gun groups are planning a protest to demonstrate the need for guns positively everywhere on campus ... to stay safe.
On Saturday gun rights groups Come and Take It Texas and DontComply.com will march through Austin brandishing loaded weapons. Then, on Guadalupe Street, near the university, the sound of gunfire will be played through bullhorns while actors carrying cardboard guns massacre actors playing unarmed students. Actors playing so-called "good guys with guns" will then use their cardboard sidearms to save the day.
The groups had planned to hold their performance on the university campus, but UT announced they'd be charged with criminal trespassing if they did so.
Separately, several combat veterans were recently interviewed for an article in The Nation, in which they said that in a chaotic crime scene it's more likely armed civilians would shoot each other or be killed by police than actually stop a bad guy with a gun.
