Eva Longoria knows from soaps.
One of the first television jobs held by the former "Desperate Housewives" star was on "The Young and the Restless," where she toiled for two years as Isabella Brana, observing how the off-camera behavior of the stars often mirrored the filmed melodrama.
"I saw first-hand the 'Soap Dish' qualities," she says.
"A lot of their storylines are derived from real-life things."
Her new NBC series, "Telenovela," combines that life experience with her childhood of watching the melodramatic Mexican soaps in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Tx.
The one that she still remembers was called "La Mentira" .
