A man in Iceland bought a burger and fries the day before the last McDonald’s in Iceland closed down for good. Years later, that meal now sits on a display shelf at a hostel.

A cheeseburger and fries from McDonald's sits on a hostel's shelf in Iceland. 

But it's not food for weary travelers—it's simply on display and it's over six-years-old. 

The last McDonald's in Iceland closed down on October 30th, 2009, as the financial crisis hit hard.

The day before, one enterprising Icelander went to that final McDonald's to buy a burger and fries.

But he didn't eat it. He kept it on a shelf for three years. 

When he opened the food, he found it looked just the same as when it was purchased.
