K2 Base Camp Memorial

Near the memorial to the climbers, who have died on K2, above Base Camp on the south spur, thin impure marbles with quartzites and mica schists, called the Gilkey-Puchoz sequence, are interbanded within the orthogneisses.
The journey starts with a flight to Skardu with spectacular views of the Karakoram range including Nanga Parbat, after several nights in Skardu we take jeep transport to the road head at Askole.
K2 Base Camp and Concordia follows a trekking route lined with rugged mountains all the way from Askole, the last village in the Braldu gorge, to Concordia. On our walk up the Baltoro glacier we will see the Trango Towers, Masherbrum, K2 and Broad Peak among many others. Concordia has been described as the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods” for its unique 360° panorama of 7,000m mountains and impressive views of K2.
In 2018 we are planning to run two treks to K2 Base Camp starting at the same time. Ade will also lead our K2 & Gondogoro La trek and from Concordia he will go out over Gondogoro La. Our K2 Base Camp group will descend from Concordia along Baltoro with our local guides. The two groups will meet up again at K2 Motel in Skardu on Day 21.
K2 Base Camp & Gondogoro La trek requires mountaineering skills to cross this pass. Whereas for K2 Base Camp & Concordia this is a high altitude walk where no technical skills are required and you walk back down Baltoro glacier from Concordia.
