Retaliers and consumers engaged in battle over 'Black Friday Creep'
At the beginning of the decade, finding a major retail store open on Thanksgiving was virtually impossible.
Now, retailers who continue to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day are in the minority.
Since 2011, more and more stores have found it lucrative to open on Thanksgiving and start Black Friday a little earlier.
But more and more people are getting fed up with retailers who open on Thanksgiving and perpetuate what has become known as "Black Friday Creep" - the encroachment of the beginning of the Christmas shopping season into Thanksgiving.
This season, some retailers have decided to shut their doors altogether on Thanksgiving while others are holding their ground and remaining open on the holiday, which kicks off a profitable weekend of shopping.
Last year, roughly 134 million people shopped the web and in stores over the Thanksgiving weekend, according to the National Retail Federation, with 65 percent of those people shopping on Black Friday, Christian Science Monitor reported.
