Group Sues To Free ‘Country’s Loneliest Chimpanzee’

A group has filed suit against Samuel Haynes, Jr. and his Louisiana amusement park Dixie Landin’ for keeping a 50-year-old chimpanzee named Candy confined alone for decades in addition to other grievances.

A lawsuit was recently filed by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, or ALDF, to free an animal they call “the country’s loneliest chimpanzee.”
The group claims that Samuel Haynes, Jr. and his Louisiana amusement park Dixie Landin’, have violated the Endangered Species Act by keeping a chimpanzee named Candy “confined alone for decades in a small, barren cage.”
