Honduras: 2016 Budget Focuses on Neoliberal Priorities
  • 8 years ago
The proposed 2016 budget now before the Honduran congress focuses on defense, security, and foreign debt payment rather than development and social programs. Security and defense spending alone account for 31% of the budget, up 53% and 29% over last year, while foreign debt payments will eat up 30%. Only 10% will be allocated to social spending. Congressional approval is guaranteed given the alliance between the ruling National Party and the conservative Liberal Party. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
