The genesis of water on Earth is a contested issue. Some believe it was here as the planet formed, while others theorize it could have shown up later.
Researchers from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa believe they've found evidence that our water was always an Earthly affair.
Using an ion microprobe, the team analyzed tiny pockets of glass in rocks originally from deep within the Earth’s mantle.
Those pockets of glass contain even smaller traces of extremely ancient water.
