To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the European Space Agency's Venus Express launch, the agency released a stunning series of images documenting the constantly-shifting southern polar vortex of the solar system's hottest planet.

The European Space Agency has released a stunning series of images showing the many faces of Venus's southern polar vortex. 
Stretching over 40 miles above the sweltering surface, clouds comprised mostly of sulphuric acid are wrenched and twisted—together and apart—at nearly 250 miles per hour. Venus itself comes nowhere near close to rotating so fast.
