OJOS DE BRUJO live @ Main Stage 2011

A few months ago, Ojos de Brujo announced the sad news: their parting from the stages after ten years of activity and seven albums behind them. In their goodbye album entitled “Corriente Vital”, apart from including seven unreleased tracks, they compiled their best material to date with the collaboration of friends garnered during their career, artists from backgrounds and styles as varied as Los Pericos, Orishas, La Troba Kung Fu, Amaral or Manolo García, among others.

The trajectory of Ojos de Brujo is similar to that of other bands but with nuances. Its musicians had coincided in a few jam sessions celebrated in the mid-nineties during which they built a repertoire that would materialize on their album “Vengue” (1999). This work helped them to realize that the best way, though more laborious, to spread their music was the self-management, a model from which they could exercise total control over their art. Since then, their material, a combination of heterodox flamenco with hints of rap, electronic music, Catalan rumba and world music, have been edited under their record labels, La Fábrica de Colores and Diquela Records.

Rototom Sunsplash temporarily rescues them from their retirement and confirms them as the first Spanish band for its 2011 edition in which they will perform a repertoire specially prepared for the occasion, a sort of “Ojos de Brujo turns Jamaican”. A unique and unrepeatable opportunity to see them on stage one last time with a very unusual compilation.
