Egyptian pyramids were built as gigantic grain silos, not as tombs, says Ben Carson
  • 8 years ago
WASHINGTON — GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson has appealed to the fundamentalist camp in the Republican political machine not just by dropping the G-word every 10 seconds, but by indulging in just the sort of anti-science, anti-fact conspiracy theories that gets them foaming at the mouth.

Conspiracy theories involving the pyramids of Egypt are nothing new—with some people suggesting that aliens or gods built the giant structures. But now, Carson's got to give the conspiracy theories his Carson twist.

During a commencement speech Carson gave at Andrews University in Michigan 17 years ago, Carson said that it's his "personal belief" that Joseph from the Bible built the pyramids as giant grain silos. He supported this theory by saying that the pyramids have numerous compartments inside that can be sealed, which are ideal for storing grain.

When Carson was recently asked again by CBS News whether he still supported these theories, he reportedly responded, "It's still my belief, yes."

After this latest lunacy, it's obvious that there is no greater friend to the religiously nuts camp within the Republican Party than the soft-spoken Carson. Some polls show Carson is surging past Republican front-runner Donald Trump in several states. Clearly, the crazy stuff he's saying is resonating among some crowds.
