USA: New Bill Aims to End Racial Profiling by Police
  • 8 years ago
Civil rights advocates and lawmakers met in Washington DC to unveil a new bill aimed at ending racial profiling by police forces nationwide. Speakers warned that racism is at the root of police violence against communities of color in the streets and even in schools. They explain that racial prejudice spurs the police to profile someone, and then the excessive use of force is justified because such profiling is acceptable in the society as a whole. A total of 961 people have been killed in the hands of police in the U.S. thus far in 2015. Of these, 232 were African-American and 144 were Latino. Bianca Perez reports from Washington for teleSUR
