Tom Lewand: I wish 'great success' to Lions

Hours after he was fired as Detroit Lions president, Tom Lewand released a statement late Thursday night thanking the organization, and specifically deposed vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., for his time with the team.
"I want to thank Mrs. Ford and her family for the opportunity to serve the Lions organization and its great fans," Lewand said in a statement released by text message.
Lewand joined the Lions as the team's director of salary cap and stadium development in 1996, after he completed his MBA at Michigan, where he was once a student manager under Bo Schembechler.
He helped build Ford Field, which the Lions moved to in 2002 after years of playing at the Pontiac Silverdome, and was promoted to team president after Matt Millen was fired early in the 2008 season.
