Brazil: Indigenous Peoples Defend Ancestral Land
  • 8 years ago
Brazilian indigenous communities held demonstrations yesterday outside the country's Congress to protest a proposed constitutional amendment that would change the way their lands have been demarcated. The constitutional changes would give congress, and not the National Indigenous Foundation (Funai), the power to determine the boundaries of their ancestral lands, removing protections. Agribusiness, cattle ranchers, and large landowners would benefit from any such constitutional changes. teleSUR
