Boy survives shark attack after kicking six-foot killer fish in the nose

HONOLULU — A ten-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after surviving a close encounter with a shark in Hawaii.

Hawaii News Now reports that Raymond Senensi was bodyboarding off Makaha Beach in Hawaii just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday when a six-foot long shark suddenly leapt out of the water and clamped down on his leg. Instead of being scared, the boy fought back, repeatedly kicking the shark on the nose until it gave up and swam away.

Bodyboarder Mike Ward and Kelly Krohne, an off-duty lifeguard, were both nearby and heard Senensi calling for help, saying he had been bit by a shark, reports Hawaii News Now. The two helped him back to shore, where his wounds were stabilized. He suffered serious injuries to his right leg, including multiple gashes and a puncture wound, according to KHON.

Senesi was later brought to The Queen's Medical Center, where he received dozens of stitches, but was able to stand up and walk with crutches less than 24 hours after the incident.
