28 new states divide South Sudan along ethnic lines

The UN expresses concern that both sides in South Sudan’s conflict are stockpiling weapons despite a fragile peace deal. Government plans to redraw state lines have also been criticized as being a risk to stability. Also, ongoing unrest in Burundi risks being exacerbated by a recent speech by the president of the Senate that some have accused of being an incitement to genocide. And some of the thousands of Somalis who have lived in Kenya’s Dadaab refugee camp have started to return home.
