Cocaine packets burst inside drug mule who bit passenger on Aer Lingus flight

LISBON — A post mortem examination on the body of a 24-year-old Brazilian man who died on an Aer Lingus flight after biting a fellow passenger suggested that he may have been a drug mule.
The man has been identified as John Kennedy Santos Gurjao. He died on board the Aer Lingus flight 485, bound to Dublin from Lisbon on Sunday afternoon.
A number of packages were found inside his body during the post mortem examination. At least one of them was ruptured, according to RTE News.
The Irish Times reports that the postmortem by Assistant State Pathologist Margot Bolster confirmed that Gurjao had ingested 0.8 kg of cocaine and had 80 wrapped pellets in his system, one of which had burst. The total amount of drugs in his system would have had a street value of €56,000 (£41,000).
The packages have been sent for forensic as well as toxicology testing. Authorities will conclude Gurjao's cause of death after the test results are available, Irish Independent reported.
A 44-year-old Portuguese woman, believed to be Gurgao's travelling companion, has been arrested and remains in Irish police custody.
