Agitated man dies on flight to Dublin after biting a fellow passenger

LISBON, PORTUGAL — A 24-year-old Brazilian man died on board an Aer Lingus flight after he reportedly bit another fellow passenger on Sunday afternoon.

The man was on Aer Lingus Flight 485, which was heading to Dublin from Lisbon. The plane was forced to divert to Cork after he became agitated and then fell unconscious, the Irish Times reported.

The man became agitated about an hour into the two-hour journey and had to be restrained. He bit a passenger who was assisting the crew to restrain him, according to the Irish Times.

After the man was subdued, he then became unwell and collapsed. The captain of the flight declared an emergency landing and the plane landed at Cork airport at around 5:40 p.m., the Independent reported.

The man was pronounced dead after the plane landed. The Irish Times reports that a woman, who is believed to have been travelling with the man, was arrested after a powdered substance was found in her luggage.
