Colombia: FARC Says No Need to Wait to January, Santos Agrees

Not a few analysts have responded to President Juan Manuel Santos’ recent announcement that a bilateral ceasefire may be possible in January of this year if an agreement can be reached on the fifth point on the agenda, which includes issues of demobilization and disarmament. The director of the Conflict Analysis Center, Jorge Restrepo, said it is essential that the bilateral ceasefire with verification mechanisms be agreed upon within the peace negotiations. Such mechanisms are now under discussion. Santos has backed the FARC’s suggestion that the ceasefire could be reached in December. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota for teleSUR.
